This charming Cartier Tank, dating to 1940, comes in 18k yellow gold and was retailed by the London branch. The watch features a clean white dial with black Arabic numerals and a case with eagle beak lugs, in good condition, engraved with ‘A. E. H. VILLIERS GRENADIER GUARDS 3.11.1940’, meaning this watch was presented to serving member of the British military during World War Two.

The man we believe the watch belonged to was Alistair Edward Hyde Villiers, who achieved the rank of Lt-Colonel in the Grenadier Guards and whose mother was cousin to Winston Churchill.
