CARTIER SANTOS-DUMONT 'DEUX ORS'

In 1904, Cartier designed what is claimed to be the world’s first watch devoted to being worn on the wrist. The timepiece was requested by Brazilian pilot, and personal friend to Louis Cartier, Alberto Santos-Dumont as a way to read the time whilst operating his aircraft. The wristwatch would go on to be mass produced from 1911 and still has a place in Cartier’s catalogue today.

The model has came in slightly differing shapes and sizes over its long history with this particular example standing out due to its white and yellow gold case, hence ‘Duex ors’. Made in the 1970’s, most of these watches were made in yellow gold with less being made in white gold and two-tone. Also, notice how the watch has yellow gold sword hands as opposed to the usual blued steel, something that differentiates this watch from others of the same reference. This then is a desirable and collectable piece for any lover of Cartier watches.
